Post Semi Automatic Browning Automatic Rifle
I came across this and thought it might be of interest to some on here. Would be great to have one of these.

Yup, legal to own all over the USA and much of Europe, restricted to a five-round magazine version in Canada, but not available at all in UK or the RoI. In the UK it's a semi-auto centrefire rifled long arm, prohibited since 1988, and in the RoI it has a distinctly 'military' look about it that would get the hair-on-fire brigade lepping around like the Iron Man in a magnet factory...

How much it would cost in Ireland is probably acedemic, since you'd never get one licensed - it's a 'fun' gun.

It wouldn't be impossible to licence here, as there are a good few ar type rifles, slr/fn , garands, etc licenced in ireland. The bar always struck me as a great lump of a thing though and never appealed to me.

If ever there was a classic arm, the BAR is it, but try pursuading your local super that is a real alternative to an SMLE might be a problem - even as a semi-auto.

The other little problem that might kill such a plan stone-dead is the current US Federal law on the export of military look-alike firearms and accessories, but ne'ertheless, if you are prepared to fund it, I'll watch with interest how you get on.

I'll pass Tac. John Moses Browning was an absolute genius and i love nearly everything he designed, the 1911 and the rest of the earlier auto pistols, the hi-power, the high and low wall single shots, the pump and semi shotguns and the o/u's, the lever actions he designed etc. However the bar to me is ugly and ungainly, so i won't wrestle with the doj or gardai for a licence for one. Surely a european distributor will be appointed, maybe in german ?

The semi-auto BAR would theoretically be able to be licenced here however with the legislative review taking place there are rumours at least that all Semi-Auto centre fire rifles might be banned (hopefully not - time to annoy the local TD). Unless there is a European distributor though I don't think it would be possible to get one out of the states, but I am open to correction on that.

R Lee Ermey (the actor who played the drill instructor on full metal jacket) did a series of programmes called Lock N'Load, which were on discovery about firearms and their development. In one episode he carried out a side by side comparison test with the BAR and the Bren. The BAR came a poor second primarily due to the lack of capacity and quality of the magazines. Both however were nowhere near as effective as the MG 34, which was the game changer for these type of light machine guns.
