Built on the Mauser 98 action, production materials (steel) and finish were usually superior. Concidering the asking price of an original matching 1903 Springfield, they can be a 'rare' bargin.
Model 1950 FN Mauser made in Belgian in 30-06 right after the big war for the Belgian Army. FN only made them for two or three years because after they finished the production run the Belgian Army went to Semi-Auto FN49. If you ever get a chance to get one pick it up it may be one of the finest surplus rifles ever made. The Belgian Army hardly ever shot them as they went to semi-auto and surplused the bolt actions out. I've had mine since around 1965. Plus they are chambered in 30-06 and nothing else.
That 1950 large ring 98 made by FN is IMO the finest military issue mauser produced and its in 30-06. They reek of Quality

VERY nicely-made carbine, but don't be recoil-shy. They are VERY kickish...
Buy one if you get one.
