This once in a hundred year event has an exponential growth rate for an infection onslaught expected to reach its peak across Europe over the coming few weeks. In Italy about 1/4 to 1/3 infected in the 'young population' went on to require an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) bed, disproving that the pandemic dramatically impacts only those with underlying health conditions and the over 70s.
Ireland has 5.2 ICU beds per 100,000 population, Britain has 7.2 and the European average is 11.5.
The shortage of ICU staff may be bigger problem. The Irish HSE said that it had purchased an additional 12 portable ventilators and 60 intensive care unit (ICU) ventilators,-
'though a series of doctors put the number at 250'. The UK has 5,000 ventilators in a population of 65 million.

It suggests the best approach for limiting the spread of this virus is take the medical advice seriously.....who knows what news tomorrow brings!

Stay safe, all.

Here in UK it's pretty dire - our local town at mid-day looked that the aliens had come and taken everyone away....................

Provided the Government data says it is safe to do so, a phase can be updated and the conditions in it modified before the final phase was reached on the 10th of August.

As an example, attempts at lobbying on behalf of clubs involved in non-contact sports to permit members living beyond the current travel limit, join members that happen to live within the current permitted travel distance, once they attend alone using private transport..

Government guidelines for the easing of restrictions.
https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/7ae99 ... 8-phase-2/

8 June (Phase 2)
You will be able to travel up to 20 kilometres away from your home as opposed to the 5 kilometre limit which was in place since 5 May.

29 June (Phase 3)
You should still stay at home as much as you possibly can. You can travel no further than 20 kilometres away from your home.

20 July (Phase 4)
As part of phase 4 of the roadmap, it is planned that you will be able to travel outside your region and beyond the 20 kilometre restriction in phase 3.

10 August (Phase 5)
Close physical contact sports, such as rugby and boxing, can resume.

Gyms, dance studios and sports clubs can reopen, only where regular and effective cleaning can be carried out and social distancing can be maintained.

Spectators can begin to attend live sporting events only in accordance with both indoor and outdoor number restrictions and where social distancing can be complied with.

Transport and travel
Non-resident tourist travel to offshore islands can resume.

Social distancing and hygiene measures are to continue for public and private transport.

OK, guys. This morning we opened up the gun club for the first time since early March with a LOT of provisions in place.

45 minute sessions with 15 minute gaps - 2m between shooters AND screens - no guests, no probies and only ONE person per firing point - no club guns/ammunition - no loitering around in the car park for a natter afterwards...plus a bunch of other stuff.

BUT - it happened, we got to shoot. Time will tell how long it will take to get back to normal - if ever in my lifetime. But we HAVE made a start. The Chinese Communist Plague is NOT going to beat ME.

***k 'em all.
